Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need an Annual Physical Exam?
The Annual Physical Exam is an important opportunity for you and your medical provider to discuss how you can best optimize your health in the future. Once you establish this “baseline” medical exam with your provider, they can discuss with you whether annual checkups would still be advised or if you would need physical exams less frequently. If you do not have a primary care physician or if it has been more than two years since your last annual physical, the medical providers at Aspire Family Medicine have appointments available to complete your Annual Physical Exam. We are conveniently located in the Denver Tech Center, and you can schedule appointments with us by calling us directly at (303)835-9915 or scheduling online at our website at www.aspirefamilymedicine.com.
What happens during an Annual Physical Exam?
The Annual Physical Exam is an opportunity for you and your medical provider to review your personal and family medical history and to assess your general health. Typically, during this evaluation, you will be asked to fill out a health questionnaire. You will be then checked in by one of our medical assistants who will obtain a height, weight, and BMI (body mass index) and perform a vision screening You will then see the medical provider who will go into more depth in reviewing your medical history questionnaire with you and discussing recommended screening evaluations that can include:
Cholesterol screening
Diabetes screening
Cervical cancer screening / Pap smear
Prostate cancer screening
Colon cancer screening
Osteoporosis screening
to name a few. Your provider will discuss the risks and benefits of the various recommended screenings based on your age, gender, medical and family history and then either perform or order the appropriate testing based on that conversation. During your Annual Physical, your medical provider will do a general physical exam. Any lab testing that can be completed in our office will typically be collected at the end of your visit, and results of those tests and screenings will be sent to you directly via our secure patient portal or by the means that you perfer.

I want to get my Annual Physical Exam done, but I have some other medical issues that I want to address as well. Can I do both at my Annual Physical?
The Annual Physical Exam is an opportunity for you and your provider to establish a “baseline” evaluation of your general health. It is also an opportunity to discuss preventative screening measures that can be potentially lifesaving when completed such as colon cancer screening. For individuals who have other medical concerns, we do recommend that you schedule a separate appointment, so your provider can fully address all of your concerns thoroughly as well as address your preventative health during your Annual Physical Exam.
Your medical provider can address medical concerns not related to the Annual Physical Exam during your appointment, but it should be noted that your insurance may impose a copay, coinsurance, and/or a deductible for services provided that are not part of the Annual Physical Exam. We would recommend that you contact your medical insurance carrier to discuss your benefits and coverage on your particular medical insurance policy.
